This Baule traditional very old door is embellished with objects which facilitate the relationship between the living world and spiritual. They are known as Anuan, showing hand carved animal and human and sometimes vegetation motifs. They were once used as entrance doors to courtyard houses.
One of the most common motifs used is the carving of crocodiles and fish. The carvings are created with such great detail making the composition feel three dimensional.
These doors have been used and there are naturally wear marks and scratches on the surface which adds to its origin and old character. Where metal is present in these doors is where the owners have repaired the cracks. The doors are used for decorative purposes and stunning pieces of art.
