Old porcelain white and blue jar from the Hunan province. Originally these would have been used for tea and sugar.
The Chinese symbol for double happiness is 囍, pronounced "shuāngxǐ". It is made up of two copies of the Chinese character 喜, which means "joy". The two characters are compressed into a square shape, and the connection between them symbolizes two people joining as one.
The double happiness symbol is a common decoration in Chinese weddings, and is often used on invitations and decorations.
