The pottery industry along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road in the Gwayi area thrives quietly yet significantly. Originating from Mrs. Mayburg, a single potter, it has evolved into a crucial local economy. Potters like Stanley Vundla and Mariah Mudimba turned this craft into a livelihood, overcoming numerous challenges, including the impact of COVID-19. Relocating for opportunities, potters such as Nokuthula Ncube found stability and success. Their products, now globally exported, embody resilience and contribute to Zimbabwe’s economy. Despite minimal recognition, this roadside industry symbolizes the enduring spirit and self-sustenance of small-time potters in the Gwayi area.
